Walther Helberg
Walther Helberg (born February 24, 1899 in Hamburg , † August 4, 1991 in Ahrensburg ) was a German ministerial official.
He came from a Hamburg merchant family and attended the local high school. Walter Helberg initially worked after the First World War and only then began studying at the TH Karlsruhe , which he completed as a graduate engineer. He joined the Deutsche Reichsbahn and was entrusted with test and construction tasks in the Reichsbahn directorates in Karlsruhe, Freiburg, Berlin and Munich. Further professional positions were in Cologne and Bielefeld, before he became President of the Reichsbahn Central Office and Deputy Director General of the Reichsbahn Fritz Busch .
After Fritz Busch retired, Helberg was appointed President of the Deutsche Bundesbahn from November 1, 1949 to May 12, 1952 . He was then President of the Hamburg Railway Directorate from 1952 to 1964.

- July 2, 1950: Honorary doctorate (Dr.-Ing. E. h.) From the Technical University of Braunschweig (at the request of the Department of Mechanical Engineering)
