Edmund Frohne

Friedrich Edmund Frohne (born June 22, 1891 in Leipzig ; † August 8, 1971 in Frankfurt am Main ) was a German transport scientist and politician .

After receiving his doctorate in 1926, Edmund Frohne worked at the Technical University of Dresden . From 1933 to 1936 he was an advisor to the Greek government on transport issues , including the planning of the new main train station in Thessaloniki . He then advised the Latvian State Railways until 1938 . In 1938 he moved to the Reichsbahndirektion Hannover . In 1941 Frohne was appointed honorary professor at the Technical University of Braunschweig .

During the Second World War, under Frohne's direction, work was carried out on an alternative route for the congested Leinetal route . The newly emerging Salzgitter / Wolfsburg industrial complex was to have a better connection to the rail network . The basic tunneling under the Harz was intended for this purpose. The tunnel route was to have secondary chambers for the production of goods essential to the war effort and a tunnel station with an elevator for Braunlage .

After the Second World War, Frohne was head of the department for mining, metallurgy and saltworks in the state of Braunschweig . From 1949 Frohne was a member of the Braunschweig Scientific Society . After the founding of the State of Lower Saxony , he was taken over into its service and there from 1947 to 1950 State Secretary in the Lower Saxony Ministry of Transport , then from July 1950 to April 1952 State Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Transport . From 1952 to 1957 he was President of the Deutsche Bundesbahn . In 1957 he became a member of the Aviation Advisory Board of the Ministry of Transport, where he headed the committee for steep and vertical take- offs. He then advised the Turkish government on transport issues.

Edmund Frohne was married and had two children.

Honors

In 1953 he was made an honorary citizen of the city of Braunschweig .
