Walther Hess (born March 12, 1900 in Frankfurt am Main , † August 26, 1986 in St Ives (New South Wales) ) was a German ambassador .
Life
Walther Hess studied law and political science at the universities of Gießen, Tübingen, Munich and Göttingen and received his doctorate in 1923 with the study of family support when called up to become a doctor of law . In 1925 he joined the foreign service as an attaché and passed the state examinations for the consular and diplomatic service. In 1927 he was Vice Consul in Thorn and in 1928 Legation Secretary in Kaunas . From 1929 to 1932 Hess was Vice Consul in Jerusalem in the British Mandate. From 1932 to 1938 he worked as a legation secretary in Belgrade . In 1938, Hess was put on hold for political reasons and in 1944 into early retirement. From 1938 to 1945 he represented the Reemtsma cigarette factories in occupied Greece and neutral Turkey . At the beginning of 1950 it was reactivated by the "Foreign Affairs Office of the Federal Chancellery". From 1952 to 1958 Walther Hess was the first German ambassador in Sydney and from 1955 in Canberra . From 1959 to 1960 he was ambassador to Mexico City and from 1960 to September 10, 1962, he was the ministerial director of subdivision 41 "Trade Relations with Foreign States". From September 10, 1962 to May 31, 1965 he was ambassador in Rabat .
