Wang Chunli ( Chinese  王春丽 , Pinyin Wáng Chūnlì , born August 10, 1983 in Jilin ) is a Chinese cross-country skier and biathlete .

Career

Wang made her international debut as a cross-country skier in 2003 at the Universiade in Tarvisio , where the best result in four starts was 13th place over 15 kilometers. At the Universiade two years later in Innsbruck she was able to improve her position as the best result by one place in as many starts on the same track. After Wang had already run a few races of the Far East Cup in 2004 and 2005, she made her debut in Bad Goisern in February 2005 in a pursuit FIS race and came second there. The Chinese competed four times at the Nordic World Ski Championships in Oberstdorf in 2005 . Her best individual result was a 26th place in the pursuit, with the Chinese relay she finished 14th. In November 2005 Wang was allowed to start in the cross-country skiing world cup for the first time . in Beitostølen she immediately won first points as 28th in the ten kilometer race. She then won her first FIS race over five kilometers in Idre . One more victory in this form of competition as well as two victories in the Far East Cup she has achieved to date. Since 2005, Wang began to develop into a sprint and pursuit specialist. Highlight of the season was to participate in the 2006 Olympic Games of Turin . In her four races in Pragelato Plan she was 13th in the team sprint, 16th with the relay, 18th over 10 kilometers and 21st in the pursuit. At the end of the season, Wang finished 21st in the Sprint World Cup race in Changchun and achieved her best ever World Cup result. For the next season, the athlete switched to biathlon and only occasionally competes in cross-country skiing races. At the Winter Asian Games 2007 , she competed again as a cross-country skier. There she won bronze over 5 km classic and gold in the sprint.

Wang has been a member of the Chinese national team since 2006. She starts for the Chinese Biathlon Association and is trained by Xinan Liang. Chunli Wang made her debut at the end of the 2005/06 season in a European Cup race in Ridnaun , where she was 30th in the individual. In the following season, she started continuously in the biathlon world cup . Already at the season opener in Östersund she came in a surprising 18th place. In most of the races in which she competed, she finished in the points. The best placings in her first World Cup season were a 13th place in the sprint in Lahti and a seventh place with the relay in Hochfilzen . She finished the overall World Cup in 42nd place. The second season went a little better for Wang. In Hochfilzen she achieved her best result so far in this discipline with fifth place in the relay. Her best individual result to date has not yet been improved, but she has stopped in the mass start race at the 2008 Biathlon World Championships in Östersund. She had already achieved good results with 19th place in the sprint and 14th in the pursuit. Only rank 64 in the individual fell a little. With the Chinese relay Wang reached 14th place. In the overall ranking of the season, Wang finally finished 36th. At the first sprint competition of the 2008/09 season in Östersund, she surprisingly celebrated her first World Cup victory.

In 2010, Wang Chunli took part in the Winter Olympics. The best placement was 33rd in the singles and 9th in the Chinese relay. At the Winter Asian Games 2011 , she finished fifth in the individual. She won silver in the relay and gold in the sprint.
