The tub is a 8.8 km long orographically right tributary of the Ruhr in the North Rhine-Westphalian Arnsberg .

geography

The stream rises in the Arnsberg Forest , about 2.8 km northwest of Arnsberg , at an altitude of 357  m above sea level. NN . From here it flows, starting in a north-easterly direction, in a wide curve to the left and then flows into Niedereimer at 173  m above sea level. NN in the Ruhr .

On its 8.8 km long path, the tub overcomes a difference in altitude of 184 m, which corresponds to a mean bed gradient of 20.9 ‰. It drains a 11.249 km² catchment area over the Ruhr and Rhine to the North Sea .

nature and environment

The source area and the upper reaches of the tub up to the Niedereimer location are located in the 2289 hectare "Breitenbruch-Neuhaus" nature reserve and are also designated as an FFH area . The middle part is located in the protected area tub stream and the underflow as the conservation area protected type C "Niedereimer".

fauna

A special feature of the tub is its meandering course with numerous bank breaks. Dipper , gray wagtail and kingfisher can be found as breeding birds by the stream . Because of the numerous bank breaks, the basin is the densest settlement with kingfisher breeding pairs in the whole of the Hochsauerland, based on its length. The black stork , which breeds in the neighboring forests, is a frequent feeder at the stream.
