The Wartstein is a lookout point ( 893 m above sea level ) in Ramsau near Berchtesgaden above the Hintersee .
Panorama and sights
The Wartstein opens up a panoramic view in the south to the Hochkalter massif with the Blaueis Glacier in the west to the Hintersee and the Reiter Alm , which follows the Lattengebirge to the northeast . In the west you can see the Göllstock in the background, in the foreground the Ramsau valley, to the southwest the Watzmann follows .
On the summit plateau there is a war memorial for the fallen and missing Ramsau citizens of the First World War . It was built by the community's returning war veterans. The monument is in the shape of a pyramid and consists of boulder stones laid out in the manner of dry masonry . Every year a rosary is held at this memorial on the 1st Sunday of November in memory of the war victims.
The Magdalenengrotte is located a little below the summit plateau . It is located in a rock grotto a few meters from the path to the summit.
Access
The Wartstein can be reached via footpaths from the direction of Hintersee and Bindenkreuz. The footpath from the direction of Hintersee branches off to the right shortly after the junction with Alte Hinterseer Straße from the district road Hintersee - Wachterl and leads gently up to the summit plateau. The path from the direction of Bindenkreuz branches off to the left shortly after the Bindenkreuz from the district road Wachterl - Hintersee and also has a medium gradient. Both paths unite shortly before the summit. The walking time is approx. 30 minutes each.
