Location of Wasenmeisterei (bold) in the Marktstefter municipality

Knackery (formerly Trap Master House ) is a remote area in the district of Marktstefter hamlet Michel Field in the Lower Franconian district of Kitzingen .

Geographical location

The Wasenmeisterei is located in the extreme southeast of the Marktstefter municipality in the Michelfelder Kühwasen corridor . To the north, about one kilometer away, is Michelfeld. A foothill of the Mainbernheim area begins further east . To the south, several districts meet; the corridors of Willanzheim (south-east), the Seinsheim district of Tiefenstockheim (south) and Obernbreit (south-west) connect . To the west is Marktbreit .

history

The current district of Wasenmeisterei is closely linked to the cultural history of the region. Since the Middle Ages, there have been individual farms away from the villages, which were inhabited by the so-called washer masters or knackers . They were obliged by the authorities to collect and remove the animal carcasses in their district. The unpleasant smell and the risk of illness led to the Wasenmeister being counted among the dishonest professions.

The Wasenmeisterei near Michelfeld was responsible for removing the carcasses in the districts of Marktsteft and Mainbernheim and was subordinate to the Margraves of Brandenburg-Ansbach . The rulers maintained the master workshop and leased the farm to the Wasenmeister. The Wasenmeisterei was described in a source from 1735. After that, the property was surrounded by a wall and equipped with a so-called Luderhütte for storing the carcasses and a dog stable .

Wasenmeister Schwarz sat there between 1737 and 1794, and on December 31, 1795 a certain Lang came into the office. Up to 1844, the masters Torwarth, Schneider and Dennerlein are proven for the Markstefter Wasenmeisterei. The Wasenmeisterei was retained when the margraviate was dissolved and the former stately villages became part of the Kingdom of Bavaria . Only improved hygienic conditions and the centralization of carcass disposal made the wasenmeisterei superfluous in the middle of the 19th century.
