|
Tiefenstockheim is a district of the market Seinsheim in the Lower Franconian district of Kitzingen with around 250 inhabitants.
geography
The parish village is located in the southern Steigerwald foreland in one of the most beautiful valleys in Lower Franconia, the Breitbachgrund .
In terms of nature, the districts of Seinsheim are divided into three different sub-units. The Ifftal area with its small streams and steep banks protrudes from the north-west into the municipality. To the northeast is the Hellmitzheim Bay , while smaller parts are in the higher Ochsenfurt-Uffenheim Gäuf area.
history
Place name
The basic word heim in the name means house or home . When determining word comes stock on what snag or strain means. The clearing settlement was created at a place where the tree remains remained and rotten. The addition deep should probably be the reference to the valley location of the parish village. This made it possible to distinguish the place from other nearby "Stockheimen" such as Mainstockheim and Fröhstockheim.
Local history
Archaeological finds from the Bandkeramiker and Hallstatt period prove that the Tiefenstockheim area was already settled before Christ.
In the 12th century the place is mentioned for the first time among the possessions of the cathedral chapter Würzburg . The cathedral chapter held the predominant position in the village until 1803. In 1810 Tiefenstockheim came to Bavaria. On May 1, 1978, the previously independent town was incorporated into the Seinsheim market.
coat of arms
Blazon : “St. Kilian in a gold bishop's robe and miter, in his right hand the silver sword, in the left the crook; a tree stump below in silver " | |
Justification of the coat of arms: The upper part refers to the historical affiliation of Tiefenstockheim to the Hochstift Würzburg, the lower part symbolizes the place name. The tinging in silver and red alludes to the coat of arms of the Würzburg monastery. |
Culture and sights
Fortified church
1330 is the first documented entry in the fief book of the Hochstift Würzburg . A Friedrich Hornung received area in the churchyard of Tiefenstockheim. In 1475 who got Dompropst the opening law. In case of danger he was allowed to seek refuge in the fortified church. Furthermore, the documents from the 16th century reported 13 alleys and church houses as well as six cellars.
The fortified church was opened to the public in 2002 after extensive renovation work. A village community center was created out of what used to be five alleys. Today it offers space for all kinds of events.
town hall
The town hall, built in 1581/82, stands in the center of the village. It has a richly decorated half-timbered upper floor and a bell tower. The house was used by the mayor and his aldermen as a place to stay. Community meetings and court days were also held here. These had previously been held under the village linden tree . The clock installed in the gable in 1698 is still in use today. At the corner stone facing the thoroughfare, a mask-like face looks at visitors.
Fronhof
Another attraction is the Fronhof of the Würzburg Cathedral Provost . This manor is diagonally opposite the town hall.
Viticulture
Today Tiefenstockheim is a wine-growing area in the Franconian wine-growing region . There is a large vineyard around the village, the wine has been marketed since the 1970s under the name Tiefenstockheimer Stiefel, which refers to the shape of the vineyards. Tiefenstockheim is part of the Schwanberger Land area, until 2017 the winemakers were grouped together in the Steigerwald area. The limestone soils around Tiefenstockheim are also suitable for growing wine, as is the location in the Maingau climate zone, which is one of the warmest in Germany.
The people around Tiefenstockheim have been viticulture since the early Middle Ages . The Franconian settlers probably brought the vine to the Main in the 7th century. In the Middle Ages, the region was part of the largest contiguous wine-growing region in the Holy Roman Empire. The people mostly operated part-time viticulture for self-sufficiency , at the same time export centers were already emerging, especially along the Main. In Tiefenstockheim, viticulture remained for domestic use.
Viticulture experienced a major decline after secularization at the beginning of the 19th century. Above all, locations with less favorable climatic conditions were completely abandoned. In addition, the emergence of pests such as phylloxera made cultivation difficult . The Franconian wine-growing region was not able to consolidate again until the second half of the 20th century. The use of fertilizers and improved cultivation methods had contributed to this, as had the organization in cooperatives and the land consolidation of the 1970s. Today, viticulture is again practiced to a limited extent in Tiefenstockheim.
