Wasim Akram (born June 3, 1966 in Lahore , Punjab , Pakistan ) is a retired Pakistani cricketer . He is considered the best Pakistani almost bowler in the history of cricket. In 1993 he was named one of the five Wisden Cricketers of the Year .

Life

Wasim Akram took part in 104 test matches during his career for Pakistan , in which he scored a total of 414 wickets . Few other players have scored more test wicks so far. He completed his first test in January 1985 against New Zealand in Auckland . His last test was in January 2002 in Dhaka against Bangladesh . Not only was Akram a great bowler, he was also a viable batsman . In a test against Zimbabwe , he scored 257 runs 'not out'. Akram is only the eighth player in the history of cricket to score more than 2000 runs and 200 wickets in test cricket encounters. Wasim Akram also completed 356 One-Day International Cricket Matches (ODIs) for Pakistan, scoring a total of 502 wickets. Only Muttiah Muralitharan has had more wickts at ODIs. Akram has participated in five Cricket World Cups during his career with Pakistan ( 1987 , 1992 , 1996 , 1999 and 2003 ). In 1992 he and his team won the tournament. In the final, he was voted Man of the Match . At World Cricket Championships only Glenn McGrath has achieved more wickets overall. Wasim Akram was inducted into the ICC Cricket Hall of Fame in 2009.
