The moated castle Brand is a lost moated castle on the Stettbach in the district of Brand of the market Eckental in the district of Erlangen-Höchstadt in Bavaria .

history

The moated castle was built around 1200 either by the ministerials from Hetzelsdorf or the Reich ministerials from Brand, who first appeared in 1265 as servants in the vicinity of Nuremberg with “Leupoldus de Brant” . The castle, which was the seat of the Hetzeldorfer in the 14th century, was first mentioned in their possession in 1504 and fell into disrepair after 1500, possibly after destruction in the Second Margrave War . From 1561 to 1611 the castle was owned by the Gotzmann von Büg family . In 1870 the castle was completely demolished.

description

According to a territorial map from 1763, the former castle complex, of which nothing can be seen today, was located on an island that was surrounded by a deep artificial moat fed by the Settelbach . In 1973, ashlar wall remains were found in the bottom of the Stettbach, suggesting a tower-like structure.
