Brand is a district of the Eckental market in the central Franconian district of Erlangen-Höchstadt ( Bavaria ). Together with Brandermühle it has about 2400 inhabitants.

history

The village of Brand was built along the old military and economic route from Regensburg to Bamberg . It was first mentioned in a document in 1071. Probably after the town was founded, two castles were built, but they have been in ruins since around 1550, the Wasserburg Brand and the Burg Brand .

Today's mansion near the main street was built just a few meters away from the old seat (behind today's town hall) by Dr. Georg Ernst Finkler erected. The two-storey rectangular building on a square floor plan with five to five window axes has a mansard roof. With his wife Helene von Endter he had their daughter Johanna Helene, who inherited the castle in 1761; she was married to Paul Christoph von Gugel, whose family had previously owned the Brander rule. In 1772 he became old mayor of Nuremberg, in 1791 Supreme War Councilor and died in 1804. His widow bequeathed her inheritance to Dr. Wagler from Nuremberg. The Finkler and Gugel families contested the will in vain. The property later came to the innkeeper Plank von Altensittenbach, who divided up the estate and in 1838 sold the manor to the community of Brand, which used it as a school building until 1966. Today the renovated building serves as the town hall.

Brand was temporarily administered by the Reichsamt Heroldsberg and then - probably around 1250 - came into the possession of the burgraves of Nuremberg . From the 16th century, parts of the village were Bayreuther , Nürnberger and Ansbacher fiefs.

In church terms, Brand belonged to the parish of Kirchröttenbach until 1520, then to Beerbach , which became an independent parish, and from 1858 to the parish of Eschenau .

Brand was affected in several wars from the 16th to the 18th century. During the Margrave War , for example, the castle was cremated and in the Thirty Years' War a large part of the population perished and many properties lay fallow for years.

The community of Brand was incorporated into the Eckental market on May 1, 1978.
