The water tower was a defense tower of the Upper Swabian city of Memmingen in Bavaria . It served to defend the so-called water art . It was canceled in 1865.

location

The tower was between the Lindentörlein and the small Pechturm on the east side of the city.

Appearance

The tower was built as a gate tower with a gable roof . It had a vault through which the Aach flowed into the city. It was plastered, unpainted, and had small ornaments. The city stream flowed through arches in a porch. The side walls were also provided with arches. Inside, the stream was bridged, so that the two side arches allowed passage.

history

The water tower was built in 1388 above the so-called water art. From around 1450 a powder factory was set up in its spacious vault , which often exploded and damaged the tower. It was roughly the shape of the Ulm Gate . The powder grinder was outsourced to the Buxach as early as 1552 . From this point onwards, it was no longer structurally changed. During the construction of the railway, it was demolished in a three-year phase from 1862 to 1865.
