Vassily Starkov ( Russian Василий Васильевич Старков ; born November 13 . Jul / 25. November  1869 greg. Kamen Well Sarma, today Rajon Yershov , Saratov Oblast ; † 26. April 1925 in Berlin ) was a Russian Social Democrat and active participant in the revolutionary movement in Russia .

Life

Starkow, son of an employee, studied from 1889 to 184 at the St. Petersburg Technological Institute. In 1890 he joined a Marxist student group. He belonged to the group around Stepan Ivanovich Radtschenko (1869-1911), to which Vladimir Ilyich Lenin joined in 1893 when he came to Petersburg for the first time. Starkow was one of the founders of the Petersburg Kampfbund in 1895 for the liberation of the working class and became a member of the central group of the Kampfbund. He was arrested on December 9, 1895, spent sixteen months in Shpalernaya Prison in Petersburg, and in 1897 was exiled to Minusinsk Raion . From 1900 he worked in Krasnoyarsk , Omsk , Kirschatsch and Bryansk . He was arrested a second time in Bryansk and then imprisoned in a Petersburg prison. In 1904 he went to Baku , where he took over the management of a power station. Between 1907 and 1910 he withdrew from active party work, but kept in contact with the Bolsheviks . From 1907 he was deputy head of the Moscow tram and in 1917 was appointed director of a power station in Moscow. From 1920 he worked for the People's Commissariat for Foreign Trade and in 1921 he was appointed deputy commercial representative of Soviet Russia and the Soviet Union in Germany . He died of heart failure in Berlin in 1925.
