Wassiliy Gavrilow
Wassiliy Gawrilow , also Wassily Gawrilow (* 1785 ; † February 14, 1813 in Vahrenwald near Hanover ), son of Gawrilow, was a Russian Cossack and officer . His grave is in the Neustädter Friedhof in Hanover.
Life
Little more is known about the life of the Cossack, who died at the age of 28, than the inscriptions on the front and back of the Russian Orthodox cross and a grave slab added by Soviet soldiers in 1946 . The German-language inscription on the back of the cross describes "Wasili Gawrilow's son" as "Lieutenent des Donschen Regiment ".
The German inscription on the grave slab reads:
"The Russian officer was
killed in the liberation of Europe
from the rule of Napoleon
Don Cossack Sotnik
Wassiliy Gavrilow
from Soviet warriors in
1946"
particularities
Name change when translating
The Russian inscription on the orthodox cross is engraved in the old Russian, more precisely “tsarist” spelling. She names Wassiliy, Gavrilov's son. The Russian writing on the grave slab corresponds to that of the New Russian spelling . However, the name was rewritten : Now a Wassiliy Gawrilow was named instead of the previous Wassiliy, son of Gavrilow .
Liberation of Europe
The grave documents two great European events in an extraordinary way;
- the Russian campaign in 1812 by Napoleon's troops , as well
- the attack on the Soviet Union by the troops of Adolf Hitler .
