Wavves is an American pop-punk band from San Diego , California . You currently have a record deal with Mom + Pop .

history

Wavves began in 2008 as a music project from founder Nathan Williams. Wavves released several 7 "singles and a cassette. The first two albums, Wavves and Wavvves, followed in quick succession . After these albums quickly garnered attention, Ryan Ulsh joined the tour as a drummer and Wavves toured for the first time the US and Europe.

Wavves released their debut album Wavves in 2008 on Woodsist Records, which was particularly praised by Pitchfork Media . At the time the band consisted only of Ulsh and Williams. This is also reflected in the extremely raw lo-fi sound of the record.

Her second studio album, Wavvves , was released on March 17, 2009 and was again positively received by music magazines such as Spin and Pitchfork.

Singer Nathan Williams then sparked negative conversation at the 2009 Primavera Sound Festival in Barcelona when he was unable to play the set, insulted the audience and argued with Ulsh on stage. The audience then pelted him with bottles and shoes. Wavves then canceled her planned European tour. Williams later admitted consuming an awkward mixture of ecstasy and valium before the concert . The next day, Williams apologized for the performance and admitted his addiction to alcohol . When Ulsh left the band, Zach Hill briefly joined the Californian music duo Hella. Two members of the late Jay Reatard's former band joined in November 2009, Billy Hayes and Stephen Pope. Williams also reported that an album with Zach Hill on drums could be expected in late 2010, along with an eventual EP.

The third Wavves album called King of the Beach was released on August 3, 2010. The album received positive feedback. The album was # 50 for Pitchfork Media's best albums of 2010, while Spin placed the album at # 24.

In autumn 2010, Nathan Williams was arrested for drug possession while on tour in Munich and had to spend one night in prison.

In November 2010, Billy Hayes left the band and was then replaced by Jacob Cooper. Wavves announced this on her Twitter account.
