Webb City is a city in Jasper County in the US state of Missouri . According to the 2010 census , it had a population of 10,996 in an area of 22,352 km².
history
First referred to as Webb City, the place was named in September 1875. It was named after John C. Webb, who founded a farm there in 1857 and found lead in 1873 while plowing . The surrounding area turns out to be rich in zinc and lead and has been referred to as the Tri-State Mining District with the neighboring communities in Kansas and Oklahoma . In 1879 it was connected to the railway network from St. Louis to San Francisco , which, together with the establishment of mines, led to an economic upswing. As early as 1900, the population reached 9,201, almost the current number.
Demographics
The 10,996 residents of Webb City, found in the 2010 census, lived in 4,230 households; including 2840 families. The population density was 492 per km². 4730 residential units were recorded in the village. The population was 90.7% White, 1.6% African American, 1.5% American Indian, 0.9% Asian, and 2.2% from other races; 3.0% said they belonged to several ethnic groups.
