Reviews

“Christmas film, (social) comedy, crime thriller, drama, even a bit of thriller: 'Christmas for Beginners' by Sven Bohse has a lot to offer in spite of its good title; But above all a love story that unfolds in a rather subtle way, as well as two wonderful leading actors in Anna Fischer and Oliver Wnuk. Strictly speaking, there are three, because Monschau, the pearl of the Eifel, provides the background for this deeply romantic comedy, in which, of all people, a deceiver who is wanted in a letter turns out to be a Christmas angel. The heroine a liar and the film the most honest Christmas film 2014! "

- Tilmann P. Gangloff

“Christmas is rather contemplative, but that doesn't exactly look like that in the first quarter of an hour of this film. Dark Russians, wild chases, teasing games in the swimming pool and lost suitcases of money - none of this has much to do with a quiet night. […] Everything has been staged very appealingly, with a cast of actors who can only be recommended. Anna Fischer has already played many good roles, and with this Katharina she could finally achieve the really big thing. Oliver Wnuk has been booked as a good son-in-law since the Stromberg days, and here he finally shows that niceness can be filled with depth and many facets. Ultimately, of course, everything is pretty predictable, but who wants to be harassed with an agonizing psychodrama shortly before the First Advent? "
