Weiler zum Turm ( Luxembourgish Weiler zum Tuer , French Weiler-la-Tour ) is a municipality in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg and belongs to the canton of Luxembourg . Hassel and Syren also belong to the municipality . Here is the source of the Syr brook . As Lieu-dit , the Schlammestee residential area still belongs to the community.
history
Archaeological finds from the Neolithic and the Celtic times show that the area was settled early. Remnants of the foundation walls of some Roman villas / hamlets indicate a town called Ricciacus , which was located near the present-day district of Hassel. The name Weiler zum Turm , Latin Turris Villare or Villare ad Turrim originated in Roman times and refers to a watchtower that was part of the fortified Roman settlement. Today's well-known tower dates from 1750 and, with a counterpart, secured access to the castle of the Lords of Weiler . Syren Church, built in 1850, became a national monument in 1999 . Hamlet has no industry, most people work in the nearby capital.
