Waldbrunn, district Weisbach

Weisbach is a part of the community Waldbrunn in the Neckar-Odenwald district in Baden-Württemberg .

Geographical location

Weisbach is located in the southeastern part of the Odenwald in its red sandstone area on the Winterhauch , an elongated plateau that culminates 5.3 km further northwest in the highest mountain in the Odenwald, the Katzenbuckel ( 626.8  m ). The center of the location is a bridge over the east-west running upper reaches of the Weisbach . A good 1000 meters further to the west, the stream turns at right angles to the south and, as a border stream to the Schollbrunn district, cuts deep into the sandstone formations of the Odenwald with a steep forest slope.

The district covers 688 hectares, of which 385 hectares are forested.

Strümpfelbrunn , the main town in the Waldbrunn community, is just under three kilometers northwest of Weisbach. The district of Mülben is adjacent to the north and the district of Schollbrunn to the west .

history

The existence of the place can be traced back to 1326 in the form of the name Wizzelsbach as the founding of the Lords of Zwingenberg .

Five stone crosses in the district of Weisbach (Waldbrunn) date from 500 to 600 years ago . The reasons for the erection of the stone crosses are no longer known. After the Thirty Years War , of 18 families with 90 people, six families with 30 people remained.

In 1955, a Protestant church was built in the center of Weisbach as a branch of Strümpfelbrunn.

On January 1, 1973, the community of Weisbach merged with four neighboring communities to form the community of Waldbrunn.

traffic

The state road L 589 runs through Weisbach as Mosbacher Strasse . It branches off from the L 524 at Mülben and leads to Lohrbach . In the center of the village, the district road K 3929 branches off from Mosbacher Straße to the west in the direction of Schollbrunn. The connection to the L 524 near Mülben connects Weisbach with all places on the Winterhauch from Eberbach to Mudau .

Observatory

Not far from the village is the observatory built by the Neckar-Odenwald version for astronomy . Every Wednesday it organizes public guided tours through the stars and temporary special tours. A youth laboratory is also attached to the observatory.
