Welferode (desert)
Welferode is a former small village settlement in the district of Frankershausen , in the municipality of Berkatal in northern Hesse Werra-Meissner .

The settlement was between Frankershausen and Wellingerode , at 219 m above sea level. NN about 1.5 km southeast of the center of Frankershausen in the valley of the Berka below Frankershausen. The Schafhof on the L 3242 has been located here since 1800 .
history
The place is first mentioned in 1272 as Weldeverot and 1273 as Waldolverode . It was owned by the Counts of Bilstein, who resided in the nearby Bilstein Castle, and in 1301 came into the possession of Landgrave Heinrich I of Hesse , who in that year owned the entire then remaining property of the last Count of Bilstein, Otto II this bought. The place then belonged to the landgrave court of Bilstein . In 1498, Walfferoide was then referred to as a desert in the Bilsteiner Salbuch , which belonged to the Landgrave including court, service and others.
About 100 years later, in 1592, Gerhard Mercator's map shows a farm and a mill in Welfferode .
