Welferode is a district of Homberg (Efze) in the Schwalm-Eder district in northern Hesse .

Geographical location

The place is located in northern Hesse around 4 km east of Homberg on the northern foothills of the Knüllgebirge on the Weißgert. The federal motorway 7 runs to the east on the outskirts . State road 3254 runs through the village .

history

Welferode was first mentioned in a document in 1197. Around 1490 there were six defensive men and four plows in the village . In 1537 Welferode consisted of 14 houses.

The spelling of the place name changed over the centuries, depending on the taste of the writer: Belferoth (1197), Waldolferode (1245), Welferode (1253), Welferade (1366), Welfferade (1388), Welferoidt (1534), Welfferode (1537 ), Welfferod (1551), Wellferoda, Welfferodt, Wolffteroda (1575/85), Welffenrot (1590), Wolfferode (1591), Welfterode (1780), Welgeroda (1823).

On February 1, 1971 as part of the Welferode was municipal reform in Hesse on a voluntary basis as part of the town Homberg, district Kassel, today Homberg (Efze) , incorporated .
