Wernswig is the largest district in terms of population of Homberg (Efze) in the north Hessian Schwalm-Eder district after the core town .

Location and traffic

The place is located in northern Hesse 5.2 km southeast of Homberg on the northern foothills of the Knüllgebirge between Niederbach and Osterbach. Federal road 254 runs to the west on the outskirts . Landesstraße 3158 runs through the village. In the past there was still the Leinefelde – Treysa railway line , as part of the Kanonenbahn .

Wernswig was first mentioned in a document in 1097. Around 1490 there were 15 defensive men and seven plows in the village .

As part of the municipal reform in Hesse Wernswig was today on a voluntary basis on 1 October 1971 in the town of Homberg, district Kassel, Homberg (Efze) , incorporated .
