The Wellington River is a river in eastern Gippsland in the Australian state of Victoria .

It rises below The Sentinels , part of the Alpine National Park at an altitude of 1030 m, flows first to the northwest and turns sharply south just before its mouth . It flows into the Macalister River after 39.7 km .

Tributaries

On its way it takes in the tributary Dolodrook River coming from the south , the Carey River coming from the north and shortly before its confluence with the Macalister River the Breakfast Creek coming from the north .

The Wellington River and its tributaries lie in largely uninhabited mountainous areas of the Alpine National Park .
