The World Economic Prize (WWP) is an annual prize awarded by the Institute for World Economy (IfW) together with the City of Kiel and the Kiel Chamber of Commerce and Industry . It is undoped and has been awarded since 2005 during the Kiel Week in the categories of politics, business and science. The winners are outstanding personalities who have made a special contribution to a socially responsible society based on personal responsibility.

Goal of the award ceremony

By awarding the prize, the IfW would like to contribute to the fact that people see globalization more as an opportunity than a threat, because it can promote and improve people's prosperity and quality of life. However, market efficiency must be combined with social responsibility. To promote this, the World Economic Prize is intended to stimulate an intensive, reciprocal dialogue between economics, politics and business.

Selection process

The winners are selected in a two-stage process: In a first step, the members of the international research network at the Institute for the World Economy compile a list of leading figures from science, business and politics. In a second step, the entries are sorted by a jury consisting of the President of the Institute for the World Economy, Dennis J. Snower , and the previous year's winners. The respective first on the list will be nominated for the award.
