Welyki Haji ( Ukrainian Великі Гаї ; Russian Великие Гаи Velikije Gai , Polish Gaje Wielkie or until the 1890s Gaje Tarnopolskie ) is a village in the center of the Ukrainian Oblast Ternopil with 4,440 inhabitants (2015).
The village, first mentioned in writing in 1785, is located 8 km southeast of the city center of the oblast capital Ternopil and has been the administrative center of the 142 km² rural community of Welyki Haji ( Великогаївська сільська громада Velykohajiwska silska hromada , with a total of 11.187 inhabitants in Rajkohajiwska Silska hromada , since July 21, 2015 ) which still belong to the following villages:
- Bavoriv ( Баворів ) with 614 inhabitants
- Biloskirka ( Білоскірка ) with 337 inhabitants
- Dytschkiw ( Дичків ) with 705 inhabitants
- Hrabowez ( Грабовець ) with 838 inhabitants
- Krasivka ( Красівка ) with 413 inhabitants
- Kosivka ( Козівка ) with 730 inhabitants
- Proschowa ( Прошова ) with 760 inhabitants
- Zastavje ( Застав'є ) with 390 inhabitants
- Sastinka ( Застінка ) with 355 inhabitants
- Skomorochy ( Скоморохи ) with 525 inhabitants
- Smoljanka ( Смолянка ) with 290 inhabitants
- Teofiliwka ( Теофілівка ) with 72 inhabitants
- Towstoluh ( Товстолуг ) with 718 inhabitants
The M 19 road runs along the village . Welyki Haji has a train station on the Krasne – Odessa railway line .
