Helix cutter
Wendel Fräser (born June 2, 1967 , † June 7, 1989 at Zanderij , Suriname ) was a Surinamese - Dutch football player . He was killed in a plane crash on June 7, 1989 near the Johan Adolf Pengel International Airport .
Fräser grew up in Rotterdam and was a fan of Feyenoord as a boy and watched the team's games in De Kuip . He became an active member of the club and managed to play his way into the second team as an all-rounder in the storm by 1987. He was only allowed to sit on the bench once during a game of the first team - whose stars in the attack were Lars Elstrup , Regi Blinker , René Hofman or Dave Mitchell . His merit was accordingly - in his bread-and-butter job, the rather calm young man worked off the field as a postman in Rotterdam.
For the 1988/89 season Fraser moved to the Eerste Divisie for RBC Roosendaal , where he quickly prevailed in the first team under coach Epi Drost . In the second half of the season he signed a contract with Schiedamse VV , where he was to play the following season under coach Dick Advocaat in the team that ultimately made it to the Eredivisie .
On the evening of June 6th, Fräser checked in as a member of the Kleurrijk Elftal - a selection of players who, like him, had Surinamese roots and played professional or semi-professional football in the Netherlands - for the SLM flight 764 to Paramaribo. The team was supposed to play a friendly tournament there in support of football in Suriname. The Douglas DC-8 of the SLM crashed on approach during the night; Like 13 other members of the Kleurrijk Elftal , Wendel Fräser was among the 176 fatalities.
Although he had only played a year at RBC, Fräser had become very popular, especially with the club's supporters; After his death, the fan club home in the De Luiten Stadium was named after him, and on the RBS website he is referred to as de legendary , ie "the legendary", Wendel milling cutter .
