action

Richard and Hilde Goetz are a married couple from, as they say, “better circles”. She, who is a few years older than him, has already been married once and from this connection has her son, Jochen, who is now of legal age. Richard is an aspiring architect with lofty plans and hopes to have a brilliant career as a distinguished and sought-after building designer with her money, which is obviously in abundance. Due to the age difference, both connections are not exactly conflict-free, especially since Richard is cheating on his wife with his younger lover Carla Förster. Son Jochen's antics with the very young Josi also sparked discussions at home.

The professional breakthrough seems to be on the way when Goetz is given a major project, when Richard threatens to ruin all his future plans with a terrible misconduct: he causes a serious car accident with fatal consequences and then, having lost his head, commits a runaway. Wife Hilde, who is attached to Richard and desperately wants to support him in his ascent, then turns herself in to the police and claims that she was driving the vehicle at the moment in question. Both lawyer Dr. Hassfeld is now supposed to crunch them out, but the lawyer turns out to be a pig and begins to blackmail Richard and Hilde with his knowledge. Richard and Hilde can defend themselves against him by sticking together.

criticism

"The 'problem film' deals with its badly constructed topics in the style of German cinema novels of the post-war period: cared for superficial and completely meaningless, full of merely pretended life."

Paimann's film lists summed up: "With too many conflicts ... and a somewhat blurry ending thanks to moderate interpreters favored by dynamic dialogues ... quite gripping."
