Maria Perschy
Maria Perschy (born September 23, 1938 in Eisenstadt , Burgenland , † December 3, 2004 in Vienna ) was an Austrian film actress .
Life
Maria Perschy received her first acting lessons at the age of 17 at the Max Reinhardt Seminar in Vienna, where Susi Nicoletti was her teacher. This helped her to get a contract with Bavaria Film . The international film world became aware of her through the film Nasser Asphalt (1958, with Horst Buchholz ). Engagements in Great Britain, France and Hollywood followed.
She made her international breakthrough alongside Rock Hudson with A Goldfish on a Leash . She then lived in Spain and appeared in numerous German, Italian and American films, including with Pierre Brice and Hans-Joachim Kulenkampff . Perschy also played in various German and international television series, so in 1970 in two parts of the English television series Paul Temple (with Francis Matthews and Ros Drinkwater ), in the series Die Fifth Kolonne , Hawaii Fünf-Null and General Hospital .
While filming in Spain, she was seriously injured in the face in a fire accident in July 1971 and was confined to bed for a long time. After several operations, she was able to continue her career. When she was asked by the Spanish in autumn 1976 to take Spanish citizenship instead of Austrian, she returned to Vienna in December 1976. She then went to Los Angeles , where she worked as a translator and in the antiques industry and bought art objects on behalf of her clients. In 1986 she returned to Vienna, where she was appointed to the Berndorf City Theater by Felix Dvorak and was successfully seen in many of his productions.
Maria Perschy died of cancer in Vienna in 2004 and was buried in her birthplace Eisenstadt in the Oberberg cemetery, Kleinhöflein district.
Maria Perschy was engaged to the actor Joachim Hansen for six years after 1958 and later to the skier Roger Staub . In 1967 she had a daughter. In 1977, in Los Angeles, she married the writer and screenwriter John Melson , who died of suicide in 1983 .
