occupation

The Revenge of Pancho Villa (original title: Los 7 de Pancho Villa ) is a Spanish-US-American co-production from 1967. The western came almost ten years later, on January 17, 1975, in cinemas in German-speaking countries.

action

In one of the numerous battles of the Mexican Revolution , Pancho Villa is wounded and has to leave a large supply of gold behind in Colón. He is then forced to work with General Urbina, who puts seven of his colleagues at his disposal to get the gold from a farm near the border. With the gold he would like to raise a new army. Meanwhile, the government and American troops are in the process of decimating his disordered people. The seven selected begin their mission, accompanied by the general and the hired American Gringo. They meet an old revolutionary whose young companion María moves on with them. Soon she will be the general's mistress. When he arrives at the farm he is looking for, the gringo finds out that Vera Stevens lives there alone after the murder of her husband by Villa's people. Then the time has come for gringo to thwart the Mexicans on both sides.

criticism

The film is a "roughly crafted, unimaginatively staged Western, whose characters remain pale," according to the lexicon of international films . Emilio García Riera complains that the villa is only used as a hook for a dependent and mediocre Hollywood imitation and a treasure hunt. The criticism of the magazine G / Geschichte is also clear : “a thoroughly banal plot of revenge”.

Remarks

In France, the film was also released as a photo novel.
