Wera Wassiljewna Slugina ( Russian Вера Васильевна Слугина ; born August 23, 1985 ) is a Russian boxer . In 2010 she became vice world champion of amateur boxers in the light welterweight division .

Career

Vera Slugina lives and trains in Nizhny Tagil in Sverdlovsk Oblast . She belongs to the sports organization Sonne and is trained by AS Malischew and AV Semjukow. It is not known when she started boxing and how she developed in the first few years. Her name appears for the first time as a participant in the international boxing tournament Venus-Box-Cup in Vejle / Denmark in October 2006. She came there in the weight class up to 63 kg body weight with a victory over the Dane Giry Espensen and a defeat against Cecilia Braekhus, Norway in 3rd place.

From then on, Wera Slugina regularly took part in the Russian championships, international tournaments and various international championships. It mostly started in the weight class up to 63 kg body weight or since 2009 in the light welterweight class.

In 2007 she took 2nd place in the Russian championship (up to 63 kg body weight). She was defeated in the final of the experienced Lyubow Lopatina just on points (19:23). At the 2007 Ahmet Comert tournament in Istanbul , she lost after winning two fights in the semifinals against Amanda Coulson from England on points (15:22).

In 2008 she was defeated in the Russian championship (up to 63 kg KG) again against Lyubow Lopatina in a long open battle on points (25:28), but already in the semifinals, so that she took 3rd place. At the international women's tournament in Stupino / Russia she lost in the final against Jelena Vystrowa from Russia on points (7:18) and therefore came in 3rd place in this tournament.

In 2009 Wera Slugina was the first Russian light welterweight champion. She defeated Zoja Kiseljewa by breaking off in the 2nd round and Jelena Wystropowa (12: 5) and Jelena V. Saweljewa (15: 5) each on points. She was then also used at the European Championships in Mykolaiv / Ukraine , where she won just under points (6: 5) over German-Polish Olivia Luczak , who started for Poland , but in the semifinals against the two-time world champion Gülsüm Tatar from Turkey lost on points (2: 7). With it she won an EM bronze medal .

In 2010, Wera Slugina was again Russian champion with victories over Jelena Afanassjewa (canceled in the 3rd round), Daria Abramowa (21: 7 point victory) and Lyubow Lopatina (8: 5 point victory). At the 2010 World Cup in Bridgetown / Barbados , she came with superior points wins over Julia Irmen-Göldner, Germany (15: 2), Olivia Luczak, Poland (19: 3), Chantelle Cameron, England (16: 4) and Cashmere Jackson , United States into the final, in which they had to give up Gülsüm Tatar again on points. Their defeat was pretty clear with 1:13 points. Nevertheless, as Vice World Champion she should have started the journey home satisfied.

In 2011 she was again Russian light welterweight champion. In the final, she defeated Darija Abramowa on points. At the European Championships in Rotterdam it was not used.
