Klara Josefin Svensson (born October 15, 1987 ) is a Swedish boxer . She won five medals at world and European championships for amateur boxers.

Career

Klara Svensson lives with her parents and two sisters in Höllviken . She went to school there and started playing soccer as a child. She practiced this sport for seven years. When she was 15 she started boxing and became a member of the Höllviken Boxing Club. She is trained by Christer Ekberg from day one. She is 1.75 meters tall and boxing as an adult at light welter weight (up to 63 kg or 64 kg body weight). At the beginning of her career, however, she started at times in the weight classes up to 66 kg (welter weight) or up to 70 kg body weight (light middle weight).

In 2005 she started at the Swedish championships for the first time at the age of eighteen. In the light welterweight division she won the final after a tough fight against Amine Sinabjan by just a few points (+20: 20). At the international championships of this year, the European championship in Tønsberg / Norway and the world championship in Podolsk / Russia , it has not yet been used by the Swedish Amateur Boxing Association.

In 2006 Klara Svensson became Swedish welterweight champion with a points win in the final over Anna Ingman (13:12). Then she started at the European Championships in Warsaw in the light middleweight division and was lucky in that she was in the semi-finals due to a small number of participants, in which she had to accept a break-off defeat in the 2nd round against the experienced Olga Slawinskaja from Russia . But she still won an EM bronze medal . She was more successful at the 2006 World Cup in New Delhi , where she had trained in the light welterweight division. There she defeated Perikan Vurkan from Turkey by breaking off in the first round as well as Kinga Siwa from Poland (31:12) and Julia Nemzowa from Russia (28:13) on points and thus faced the Indian Jenny Lalremliani in the final . Against Lalremliani, who was driven by the fanatical crowd, she couldn't get along and was taken out of the ring by the referee in the 2nd round. But she became vice world champion, a very big success for her. When the Swedish women's national relay team went to Canada in October 2006 , Klara Svensson u. a. Fight against reigning welterweight champion Mary Spencer and reigning light middleweight champion Ariane Fortin . She lost both fights on points, but each drew respectably from the affair.

At the beginning of 2007 Klara Svensson suffered a severe elbow injury and had to undergo an operation as a result. She was therefore unable to train for six months this year and was also unable to take part in the Swedish championships, but got fit again by the start of the European championship in Vejle / Denmark in September 2007 . In Vejle she started again in the light welterweight division and reached the final with points wins over Kinga Siwa (10: 7) and Danuse Dilhofova , Czech Republic (8: 4) and a demolition win in the 3rd round over Gülnar Goncek, Turkey, the final in which she against the French Lucie Bertaud lost on points (4:10).

In February 2008 Klara Svensson fought in Cork in an international match against Ireland against the lightweight world champion Katie Taylor and lost this fight on points. Shortly afterwards she became Swedish champion for the third time. In the final fight of the light welterweight she defeated Malin de Wall clearly on points (32: 4). In 2008 the Women's World Cup took place in Ningbo / China . Klara Svensson started there in the light welterweight division and defeated Timea Nagy (boxer) from Hungary (11: 6) and Jana Sawjalowa from Ukraine (5: 3) on points. In the semifinals she lost against Lyubow Lopatina from Russia on points ( 5-8 ) and won a World Cup bronze medal.

After a weight class reform by the world boxing association AIBA in 2009, she started at the Swedish welterweight championship in 2009, where she won her fourth championship title with a point win over Binti Toure (21:11). At the European Championships this year in Nikolajew / Ukraine she was very unlucky, because she ran into a counterattack by Norwegian Lotte Lien and suffered a knockout loss in the 4th round. She was eliminated in the second round and only reached 9th place. In 2010 she recovered well from this defeat and already showed at the boxing tournaments in Heraklion / Greece and in Nikolajew, where she won the final fights against Wera Slugina from Russia (2: 9) and Svetlana Tertschina from Ukraine (3 : 8) lost, good fights. At the 2010 World Cup in Bridgeport / Barbados , she was back in the light welterweight division and won points over Glauce Alves, Brazil (11: 8) and Margarita Tschenewa, Bulgaria (13: 3). In the semifinals she met the world champion Gülsüm Tatar from Turkey, to whom she lost on points (3: 7) after a good fight. She won a world championship bronze medal. That was her fifth medal in an international championship. A victory at such a championship has not yet been granted to her.

In 2012, women's boxing competitions were held for the first time at the Olympic Games in London , but only flyweight (up to 51 kg), lightweight (up to 60 kg) and middleweight (up to 75 kg body weight). For Klara Svensson there would probably only be a start in the lightweight category, although she would have to work off another 4 kg. The future will tell whether she will manage that.
