Werner Albrecht (politician)

Werner Albrecht (born February 19, 1921 in Leipzig , † January 6, 1993 in Berlin ) was a German politician of the Socialist Unity Party of Germany (SED) in the German Democratic Republic (GDR). From 1972 to 1981 he was head of the “General Department” of the Central Committee (ZK) of the SED .

Life

After his father was murdered by the National Socialists , Werner Albrecht and his family emigrated to Czechoslovakia in 1934 and to the Soviet Union in August 1934 . Until 1938 he lived in a home for the children of political emigrants in Moscow and attended middle school . In 1939 he received Soviet citizenship and entered the Komsomol . From 1939 to 1941 Albrecht studied medicine at the Lomonossow University in Moscow and in Frunze in Kyrgyzstan . From 1942 to 1945 Albrecht was employed as a medical assistant in the Red Army . After the end of the war until 1947, Albrecht worked as an electrician in Schpola near Kiev .

In 1947 Albrecht returned to Germany and joined the SED. Until 1950 he was a translator and political assistant in the general department of the Central Committee of the SED, which was responsible for contacts with the Communist Party of the Soviet Union (CPSU). In 1968 Albrecht graduated from the Humboldt University in Berlin with a diploma - language mediator for Russian. From 1969 to 1970 Albrecht studied at the party college of the CPSU in Moscow. After his return he became deputy head of the SED Central Committee in 1971 and head of the General Department in 1972. In 1981 Albrecht retired. Until 1989 Albrecht was active in the committee of the anti-fascist resistance fighters .
