Werner Contag

Werner Contag (born August 12, 1892 in Elbing , † July 17, 1967 in Minden ) was a German engineer and construction clerk.

Life

As the son of Carl Contag , Werner Contag attended the Herder-Gymnasium Nordhausen . After graduating from high school , he enrolled at the Albertus University in Königsberg for mathematics . With Fritz Schellong he became a member of Corps Masovia in the summer semester of 1912 , to which his father also belonged. To become an engineer, he moved to the TH Munich in 1913 . As a war volunteer with the VIII Army Corps , he went to the First World War . When he returned home as a lieutenant with the Iron Cross, 2nd class, he was still a company commander in the Eastern Border Guard in 1919 . In 1920 he was able to complete his studies as a graduate engineer . He entered the building administration of the Free State of Prussia and came as a government master builder in East Prussia's seaport town of Pillau . Appointed to the Reich Ministry of Transport in 1925 , he was government building officer at the Reich Waterways Administration from 1929 . From 1931 to 1945 he was the town planner in Eberswalde , but also fought throughout the Second World War , since 1942 as a major . Moved to Minden in the post-war period , from 1949 to 1945 he was managing director of the housing association Wohnhaus-Minden, which was founded in 1939 . He earned extra income with his books. Contag died of a heart attack shortly before his 75th birthday . He left his wife Alice née Ristow (an East Prussian pastor's daughter), a son and a daughter. He was buried in the new south cemetery in Minden.
