Werner Heinen

Werner Franz Jakob Heinen (born October 23, 1896 in Oberpleis , Siegkreis , † October 22, 1976 in Cologne ) was a German biologist and writer .

Life

Werner Heinen was the son of a pharmacist . After attending grammar school in Siegburg , he studied mathematics , botany and zoology at the universities in Bonn and Cologne. In 1922 he received his doctorate in philosophy from the University of Cologne . From 1924 onwards, Heinen was a study assessor in Cologne and from 1926 in Essen . From 1929 he worked as a high school teacher in Bergneustadt , from 1935 to 1945 in Essen. From 1947 he taught as a lecturer biology at the Catholic Teacher Training College in Oberhausen , from 1953 to 1966 he was Professor at the Pedagogical Academy in Cologne.

Werner Heinen wrote not only popular science articles on natural history topics, but also novels , stories , poems and plays .

From 1950 he was a member of the board of the West German authors' association . In 1967 he was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit, 1st class.

Since 1941 he was married to Elisabeth Hermann. Heinen died one day before his 80th birthday in a Cologne hospital.
