Henning Friedrich Carl Graf von Bassewitz , also Henning Carl Friedrich Graf von Bassewitz , with the addition of the ownership name also von Bassewitz-Schwiessel (born October 27, 1814 in Schwerin ; † December 15, 1885 in Sternberg ) was Mecklenburg-Strelitzsch Councilor, Mecklenburg-Schwerinscher Minister of State and member of the constituent Reichstag of the North German Confederation .

Henning von Bassewitz came from the old Mecklenburg noble family von Bassewitz . He was the son of the chamberlain and landowner on Prebberede , Adolph Christian Ulrich Graf von Bassewitz (1787–1841), and his wife Wilhelmine Luise Albertine Karoline, nee. von Levetzow (1794–1862). He was married to (Karoline Georgine) Marie, born in 1847. from Behr . He had two sons and three daughters. A grandson, Georg Henning Graf von Bassewitz-Behr , was the heir to Schwiessel , Walkendorf and Dorotheenwalde near Teterow .

Life

Bassewitz studied law in Rostock and Berlin . In Rostock he became a member of the Corps Vandalia Rostock in 1834 . He prepared for the Prussian state service, but entered Mecklenburg-Strelitz's service in 1842 , where he was a member of the grand ducal court as chamberlain and a member of the government there from 1842 to 1848 as a councilor. When the government was reshuffled in Mecklenburg-Strelitz in the course of the 1848 revolution, he was decommissioned in 1848. From 1851 Bassewitz was district administrator of the Duchy of Güstrow , which included the estate Wendish district of Mecklenburg. In addition, Bassewitz is mentioned as a landowner on Schwiessel.

From 1867 he was a member of the constituent Reichstag of the North German Confederation and of the customs parliament for the constituency of Mecklenburg-Schwerin 4 ( knightly goods ).

From 1869 to 1885 he was President of the State Ministry of Mecklenburg-Schwerin and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Chairman of the Court of the Grand Ducal House there. In addition, he was an authorized representative at the Federal Council of the German Empire.
