Werner Knothe

Werner Knothe (born March 16, 1900 in Bremen , † July 7, 1967 in Hamburg ) was a German radiologist and university professor .

Life

Knothe, whose father was a teacher, studied medicine from 1919 to 1923 after completing his school career. In 1923 he received his doctorate in Kiel, in 1924 he received his license to practice medicine . After years as an assistant in Bremen and Mainz, Knothe worked at the 2nd Medical University Clinic of the Charité under Gustav von Bergmann from 1927 . In 1931 Knothe qualified as a professor at Berlin University. From 1931 Knothe headed the X-ray department at the Charité. His main research focus was the colon mucosa and he published the text The colon mucosa, its normal and pathological function in X-rays , which earned him the derisive name Rubens of the mucous membrane relief.

Knothe joined the SA and the NSDAP in 1933. In 1934 he was appointed "Leader of the Lecturers" at Berlin University. From 1935 he was a non-civil servant associate professor and headed the German Radiological Society . In addition, he was chairman of the lecturers for aviation medicine at the German universities and published the aviation medicine treatises . From 1934 Knothe headed the X-ray Institute at the Horst Wessel Hospital and was authorized to carry out sterilization using radiation.

During the Second World War , Knothe was the Chief Medical Officer of the Air Force, in command of the Air Force's medical testing and teaching department in Jüterbog . Knothe took part in the conference on medical issues in distress at sea and winter death on October 26th and 27th, 1942, where a lecture was also given about the "attempts at hypothermia" in the Dachau concentration camp .

After the end of the war, Knothe lost his offices, but from 1950 he headed the X-ray Institute at Hamburg's Bethanien Hospital. In addition, from 1962 he was chairman of the North German Radiological Society. Knothe died in 1967 after an operation on his gallbladder .
