Werner Matthies

Werner Matthies (born June 21, 1910 in Brandenburg an der Havel ; † February 1, 1991 in Berlin ) was a German politician ( SPD ).

Werner Matthies attended an elementary school and then the textile school in Berlin. He did a commercial apprenticeship as a textile merchant. He later attended the textile college and worked as a department store specialist . In 1940 he was drafted into the Wehrmacht and became a prisoner of war .

After the Second World War , Matthies returned to Berlin in 1946 and worked as a self-employed sales representative in the textile industry. In 1950 he trained at the Social Insurance College. From 1953 he worked for the public services, transport and traffic union (ÖTV). He was a member of the district assembly in the Wilmersdorf district . Since Klaus Schütz was elected member of the Bundestag, Matthies moved up to the Berlin House of Representatives in November 1957 . In the Berlin election in 1958 he was re-elected to parliament, but left in October 1959. His successor was then Karl Podach (1901–1983).
