Werner Neubert (born June 23, 1954 in Neustadt an der Orla ; † March 13, 2013 ) was a German football player. In the 1970s he played for FC Carl Zeiss Jena and BSG Wismut Gera in the GDR Oberliga , the top division in GDR football .

Athletic career

At the age of nine, Werner Neubert began his football career in 1963 with the company sports association (BSG) Motor Neustadt / Orla . In 1970 he was delegated to the junior team of FC Carl Zeiss Jena, for which he played in the junior league until 1972. For the 1972/73 season he was taken over into the 2nd men's team, which was represented in the second-rate GDR league . During this season he was used in ten of 22 point games (1 goal), in 1973/74 he was already a regular player with 21 point games and four goals. He also made his debut in the Oberliga team in 1973/74 in the cup game at BSG Stahl Riesa . In the 5-1 win on December 16, 1973, he was used as a left winger. In the 1974/75 season, three more cup appearances were added, including the semi-final against Dynamo Dresden (1-0). Neubert played his only league game for FC Carl Zeiss on December 21, 1974 in the 13th game between FC Karl-Marx-Stadt - FC Carl Zeiss (3-1), in which he was substituted on in the 81st minute. In addition, he was a regular player in the 2nd team with 18 missions (3 goals). In 1975/76 he helped the 2nd team to win the relay in the GDR league with 20 point matches and five goals.

Since the second teams were banned from the GDR league for the 1976/77 season and had to compete in the third-class district league in the future , Neubert moved to the GDR league club Wismut Gera. There he became a regular player with 17 missions in 22 point games and rose with the team in the top division. In his second league season he played six point games as a striker from the 3rd matchday on, but then had to do an 18-month military service in the National People's Army in November 1977 . At the beginning of the 1979/80 season, Neubert played again for the BSG Wismut Gera, which had now returned to the GDR league. With his use in all 22 point games and six goals, he had a good return, and he remained a regular regular of the bismuth team until 1982. In the 1982/83 season he was only used 13 times in point games and then moved to league competitor Motor Nordhausen .

In Nordhausen, Neubert was a regular player in 1983/84 with 21 league games, in the following two seasons, which ran over 34 rounds, he was only a substitute player with ten and eleven league games. At the age of 31 he said goodbye to competitive sports at the end of the 1984/85 season and let his football career come to an end with the district league team BSG Chemie Kahla . He later got involved in the successor club SV 1910 Kahla, where he z. B. between 2007 and 2011 trained the soccer team playing in the regional class (8th league). Werner Neubert died in 2013 at the age of 58, two years after he ended his activity as a trainer.
