Werner Orlowsky (born April 8, 1928 in Berlin-Tiergarten ; † February 16, 2016 in Berlin ) was City Councilor for Construction in Berlin-Kreuzberg from 1981 to 1989 .

Orlowsky studied history and philosophy. From 1960 to 1981 he ran a drugstore at Dresdener Straße 19 near the Kottbusser Tor . In the 1970s the demolition of the buildings there was planned and partially implemented. The occupation council committed itself to the preservation of the old houses, Orlowsky became its spokesman in 1981. When the "Alternative List for Democracy and Environmental Protection" (today Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen Berlin ) was able to fill the post of building city councilor in 1981 after the district's successes in the election to the House of Representatives , it nominated Orlowsky. He was often referred to as the “first green building councilor” in Berlin and also in Germany.

With his concept of “careful urban renewal”, Werner Orlowsky made a significant contribution to the preservation of the old buildings in Berlin-Kreuzberg.

Orlowsky was buried in the Luisenstadt cemetery .
