Werner Raditschnig (born November 21, 1948 in Villach in Carinthia ) is an Austrian composer and guitarist .

education

Werner Raditschnig studied double bass with H. Bürgschwendtner, guitar with H. Koch and B. Kovats and live electronic composition with Andor Losonczy at the Mozarteum in Salzburg . From 1972 to 1976 he took composition and analysis courses at the international summer courses in Darmstadt and the courses for new music in Cologne.

Artistic activities

From 1971 to 1974 Raditschnig was the artistic director of the “Schallmomente” ensemble, which created his works in the form of collective compositions, improvisations, interactions and sound actions. In 1975 he initiated the group "Guttenberg", which operated Dadaist-musical-political activism together with Erwin Hörl, Gerhard Laber and another musician. From 1975 to 1982 he realized over 20 compositions of electronic music in the electronics studio of the Mozarteum a. a. “Song of the Earth”, “Silent Night”, “No Prisoners”. From 1983 to 1990 he worked with the percussionist Gerhard Laber in the duo "Tauto". In 1989 Werner Radtischnig founded the “Arbeitsgemeinschaft für Neues Musiktheater” together with the director and producer Herbert Gantschacher , from which in 1992 ARBOS - Society for Music and Theater emerged. In 1990 Raditschnig was the initiator and curator of the project “The Power of Sounds” and presented artists such as Gunter Schneider, Josef Klammer, Seppo Gründler, 440 Hertz, Wolfgang Mitterer, Wolfgang Musil and Werner Cee. In 1996 he created the scenic oratorio “The Walls of Jericho” based on sound sculptures by Gunter Demnig , which was premiered in the Collegiate Church in Salzburg. Other venues were Klagenfurt (Künstlerhaus), Český Krumlov (Egon Schiele Center), Cologne ( Domforum des Kölner Domes), Millstatt (International Music Weeks in the Collegiate Church) in a production by ARBOS - Society for Music and Theater and in 1999 in Antwerp by Opera Mobile. In 1998, Raditschnig created the musical theater work "19182338 - no connection under this number" for the libretto by Herbert Gantschacher, which together with the musical works "Different Trains" by Steve Reich and "La ville nomade" by Peter Swinnen in Europe in moving trains at railway stations in Belgium (Tongeren, Antwerp, Brussels), Germany (Erfurt, Leipzig, Dresden), the Czech Republic (Praha), Slovakia (Bratislava), Hungary (Budapest) and Austria (Vienna, Salzburg, Villach, Klagenfurt). The themes of this music theater triptych are deportation and the Holocaust. In 2002 he worked at the “Schallortung” festival in Toihaus Salzburg. In 2005 he created the work "Gradation" for trombone and 8-channel electronics, which premiered in the barrage of the Rott power plant.

Raditschnig played at festivals for new music at the Aspects Festival in Salzburg, the Days for New Music in Bozen, the Long Night of New Sounds in Vienna, the New Music Forum Viktring , the Confrontations in Nickelsdorf, the Ulrichsberger Kaleidophon, the art associations in Vienna and Klagenfurt and the Brucknerhaus in Linz.

Raditschnig teaches guitar at the music school in Rosenheim in Bavaria and lives and works in Salzburg.
