Werner Reinhart (* 1958 ) is a German Americanist and university professor . Since November 2012 he has been President of the European University Flensburg .

Life

Werner Reinhart studied German and English / American studies at the University of Mannheim and the University of California in Berkeley . In 1984 he completed his studies with the first state examination for teaching at grammar schools. In 1990 he was promoted to Dr. phil is doing his doctorate (subject: literary madness: studies on the madness motif in American narrative literature 1821-1850). In 1998 he completed his habilitation in American Studies (subject: Picaresque novels of the 80s: Ronald Reagan and the renaissance of political storytelling in the USA - Acker , Auster , Boyle , Irving , Kennedy , Pynchon ).

After teaching at the University of Mannheim (from 1990 to 1997 as a research assistant and from 1998 as a university lecturer) and a one-year research stay at Dartmouth College ( New Hampshire , USA), he was offered a C4 professorship at the then University of Flensburg in 2002 . Reinhart's main research interests are in the areas of contemporary literature , the interrelationship between literature and politics, and genre typology .

Werner Reinhart was Vice President for Studies and Teaching from 2010 to 2012. After the then President of the University of Flensburg, Waltraud 'Wara' Wende , left office prematurely in June 2012 to become Minister of Education and Science of the State of Schleswig-Holstein , Reinhart headed the university as interim president until his election in October 2012 .

Under his presidency, the university was renamed “European University” (June 2014). Internationally oriented semester times (spring and autumn semesters, semesters start on March 1st and September 1st respectively) were introduced at the EUF in September 2017 and so-called European professorships were created. In the area of ​​study and teaching, new European science courses have been set up. In November 2016 the "Center for Education, Teaching, School and Socialization Research" (ZeBUSS) was founded, and in March 2018 the "Interdisciplinary Center for European Studies" (ICES).

From June 2014 to May 2016, Werner Reinhart was chairman of the Schleswig-Holstein State Rectors ' Conference.

On June 28, 2017, the Senate of the European University of Flensburg confirmed Werner Reinhart as President for a second term (2018-2024).
