Werner Ullrich (politician)

Werner Ullrich (born March 24, 1928 in Hohenleipisch , Liebenwerda district ; † May 12, 1999 in Gera ) was a German politician of the Socialist Unity Party of Germany (SED) in the German Democratic Republic (GDR), who was chairman from 1983 to 1990 of the Gera District Council .

Life

Werner Ullrich, son of a butcher and distillery worker as well as a housewife, attended elementary school from 1934 to 1942 and then began vocational training as an industrial clerk . At the end of the Second World War he was an air force helper in 1945 and was called in to do reparation work from 1945 to 1946 after the war. He then worked between 1946 and 1948 as a stoker in the Soviet Occupation Zone (SBZ) and subsequently joined the armed forces . From 1948 to 1953 he was a member of the German People's Police (DVP) or the Barracked People's Police (KVP) and was most recently promoted to captain . In 1949 he became a member of the Socialist Unity Party of Germany (SED) and worked between 1953 and 1955 as a senior consultant at the Gera District Council before he was secretary at the Gera District Council from 1956 to 1957. He then acted as deputy head of department between 1957 and 1964, and most recently as head of department at the Gera District Council.

Ullrich, who completed a correspondence course at the German Academy for State and Law (DASR) " Walter Ulbricht " in 1962 as a graduate political scientist, studied from 1964 to 1965 at the party college of the CPSU . After his return he was Deputy Chairman of the Gera District Council between 1965 and 1983 and also Chairman of the District Planning Commission. On May 30, 1983, he succeeded Karl-Heinz Fleischer as Chairman of the Gera District Council and held this position until January 9, 1990, when Helmut Luck took over as his successor.

On November 16, 1990, Werner Ullrich was charged by the Gera District Public Prosecutor's office as chairman of the Gera District Election Commission during the local elections on May 7, 1989 , for inciting election fraud . On January 15, 1992, he was sentenced by the Gera-Stadt district court to one year and three months' imprisonment.
