Albert Wettengel

Albert Wettengel (born January 31, 1921 in Pohorsch , Czechoslovakia , † November 4, 2004 ) was a German politician ( SED ). He was chairman of the council of the Gera district in the GDR .

Life

Wettengel, son of a small farmer and farm worker , attended elementary school and completed an apprenticeship as a blacksmith. He worked in this profession in Schaub and Horosedl (Bohemia) until 1940 . From June 1940 to April 1943 he worked in the Reich Labor Service as a lathe operator and milling cutter in the Junkers factories in Schönebeck (Elbe) . He was called up for military service in the Wehrmacht in April 1943 . In May 1945 he was taken as a private captivity by the US . In August 1945 he was released from captivity in Weiden in the Upper Palatinate . From August to November 1945 Wettengel worked as a farm worker in Bavaria . From November 1945 to June 1946 he worked as a locksmith in Schönebeck.

In January 1946 he joined the KPD and a short time later became a member of the SED. From June 1946 to June 1947 he attended a course for vocational school teachers at the Technical University of Dresden and then passed the first teacher examination. From July 1947 to August 1950 he was a teacher at the vocational school in Schönebeck. After a distance learning at the German Academy for Political Science and Law , from June to August 1950 he headed the Office for Public Education at the City Council of Schönebeck. From August 1950 to February 1951 he was mayor of the city of Schönebeck. He was then from March 1951 to August 1952 district administrator of the Weißenfels district and from August 1952 to February 1953 chairman of the council of the Eisleben district . From February 1953 to 1956 he was Lord Mayor of Stalinstadt .

From 1956 to 1959 he studied at the party college at the Central Committee of the CPSU in Moscow and graduated with a degree in social science. From October 14, 1959 to May 1965, Wettengel acted as chairman of the Gera district council. He was released from his position as council chairman because of a delegation to a two-year direct course (2nd special course for party cadres) at the Berlin- Karlshorst School of Economics . He was also a member of the SED district leadership and member of the district day Gera. From 1967 he was head of the cadre administration at the office of the Council of Ministers of the GDR .
