Werner Zuber (* 1964 in Aresing , Upper Bavaria ) is a German Roman Catholic theologian, church musician and organist .

Life and career

Zuber works as a theologian and church musician in the church music department of the Diocese of Augsburg for the music department in pastoral care and is also responsible for continuing education and training in church music. He received his basic musical training during his high school from church music director and monastery organist Victor Ballon in Waldsassen and has been a permanent organist since he was thirteen. After graduating from high school, he studied philosophy and Catholic theology at the universities of Augsburg , Bonn and Eichstätt . From 1990 to 1991 he was a student at the University of Applied Sciences for Church Music and Music Education in Regensburg (today University for Catholic Church Music and Music Education ). He owes further impulses for improvisation to Petr Eben (Prague), Naji Hakim (Paris) and Wolfgang Seifen (Berlin). This was followed by training as a pastoral consultant and seven years as a consultant for community development in the Augsburg diocesan region of Old Bavaria. 1994 to 1996 further education at the Institute for the Promotion of Young Journalists ifp in the areas of press, radio, television and public relations.

Werner Zuber completed his postgraduate studies in church music (master's degree in liturgical music) in Lucerne with David Eben, Alois Koch and Wolfgang Sieber with a focus on Gregorian chant and organ improvisation.

From 1999 to 2014 he was a church musician at the Heilig-Geist-Kirche in Mühlried, where he continues to lead the requiem choir at funeral services.

In autumn 2010 he was appointed lecturer for church music C-training with the subjects organ, liturgical organ playing, improvisation and music theory in the diocese of Augsburg ; at the same time he received the appointment as Dean's Chancellor for Neuburg-Schrobenhausen . Zuber has been organizing improvisation concerts on biblical texts and pictures by Marc Chagall and Sieger Köder at home and abroad for over 25 years . Werner Zuber played the final concert in February 2019 as part of the celebrations for the rededication of the Merklin-Schütze organ from 1856 in Havana / Cuba. Together with jazz musician Stephan Holstein on his instruments clarinet, bass clarinet and saxophone, Werner Zuber performs sacred evening and night meditations to the songs of St. Hildegard von Bingen . At the parish church of St. Thaddäus in Augsburg and at the Upper Bavarian pilgrimage church of the Birth of the Virgin on Maria Beinberg, he realizes diverse musical encounters in liturgy and concerts.

  • In the songbook Because you are there (praise of the children of God) two songs were recorded: “Do not be afraid!” Says the Lord (text from Isaiah 43: 5) and “We bring our gifts to you, the good God”, Lahn -Verlag (Kevelaer), Dehm Verlag (Limburg 2009); already 6th edition in 2016.

  • Opening canon (with four voices) "As in heaven, so on earth" for the Children's Choir Day of the Diocese of Augsburg in Ulrichswoche 2018; published in the choir booklet of 7 July 2018.
  • Two song calls “Lord, hear our prayers” and “We bring our gifts” were included in the song book Thankful, let us announce it in the congregation appendix to the praise of God of the Catholic. Church parish Zum Guten Hirten, Berlin added; Berlin 2018.
