The Weser was a fireboat stationed in Bremerhaven .

history

The ship was built in 1973 under the construction number 2247 at the Schichau Unterweser AG shipyard in Bremerhaven. The launch took place on October 20, 1973. The ship was christened on January 28, 1974 and put into service.

The ship had been ordered by the Hanseatic City of Bremerhaven in Bremerhaven. The construction was financed by the state of Bremen and the Federal Republic of Germany. Background of the construction of the fighting cruiser was the burning of the stern trawler Vest Recklinghausen on August 22, 1970 in the Weser estuary, in which eight sailors were killed. The fireboat built for the port area from Bremerhaven took around three hours from Bremerhaven to the site of the accident near the Roter Sand lighthouse .

The ship was extensively rebuilt once and the previously open, upper steering position was replaced by a closed, gas-tight bridge.

The fire-fighting cruiser was the first sea-going fire boat in the Federal Republic of Germany. At that time it was considered to be the most modern fire-fighting cruiser in Europe. The ship was berthed in the Geeste .

The fire-fighting cruiser was decommissioned on December 31, 1998 and sold to a company in the Netherlands in 1999 . It was then to be used for guarding oil rigs and as a rescue ship; In 2006 it was used as a presentation ship for Metaaldraaierij Sepers bv and should also be shown at maritime exhibitions in Holland.

Technical specifications

The propulsion of the ship was carried out by three MTU - Diesel engines . The propulsion concept of the three-screw rescue cruiser of the German Society for the Rescue of Shipwrecked People was adopted. A sixteen-cylinder diesel engine is 3,000 hp power as a means motor acted on a fixed pitch propeller and two eight-cylinder diesel engines, each with 750 hp motors appeared as side each have a variable pitch .

The ship was equipped with three extinguishing monitors . Two of them were in front of the deckhouse , one on a platform on the chimney. This extinguishing monitor could be extended up to 17 meters above the waterline. The throwing distance of the monitors was around 100 meters. The monitors were fed by two fire pumps that could pump up to 12,000 liters of water per minute. The foam compound tanks held 15,000 liters.

A rigid inflatable boat was carried on the aft deck , which could be put into the water and picked up again with the help of a crane.

The ship's crew consisted of three men. In the event of an emergency, it was reinforced by fire fighters from the Bremerhaven fire brigade .
