West Newbury is a town in New England . It is located in Essex County , Massachusetts on the banks of the Merrimack River , about 25 miles from Boston . With the adjoining places Merrimac and Groveland , the place forms the common Pentucket Regional School District .
history
West Newbury was first settled in 1635 as part of the adjoining town of Newbury . On February 18, 1819, the Massachusetts General Court passed an Act "Registering the City of Parsons". The original proposal had already been made in the late 18th century, but Newbury, having had to do without Newburyport , resolutely opposed the independence and blocked the measure for several decades. On June 14, 1820, another law was passed which changed the name Parsons to West Newbury.

Demographics
The United States Census 2000 counted 4306 residents in 1392 households and 1183 families in West Newbury. The population density was 118.5 inhabitants / km². The number of residential units was 1423, which corresponds to a density of 40.6 apartments / km².
The inhabitants passed in 2000 to 94.48% of White , 0.19% African American , 0.02% Native American , 0.53% Asian , 0.00% Pacific Islander , 0.36% from other races , and 0.41% from two or more races. 0.65% of the population stated in the census to be Hispanic or Latino .
Children under the age of 18 lived in 46.6% of households and married couples lived together in 76.8% of households, 6.2% of households had a female head without a husband present, and 15.0% of households were non-families. 11.9% of all households were made up of individuals and 5.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.98 people and the average family consisted of 3.25 people.
Of the population, 30.0% were less than 18 years old, 4.3% were in the 18 to 24 age group, 27.0% were between 25 and 44 years old and 29.9% were between 45 and 64 years old. 8.8% were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 40 years. For every 100 women there were 99.5 men; for every 100 women over 18, there were 93.9 men.
The average income per household was 92,828 US $ and the median family income was 99,050 US $. The men had an average income of $ 80,670, compared to $ 40,189 for women. The per capita income was US $ 35,323. About 2.8% of families and 3.8% of the population are below the poverty line ; this affected 3.8% of those under the age of 18 and 9.8% of those aged 65 or older.
