Wheatfield (German wheat field ) is a city in the southwestern part of Niagara County , New York , United States of America . The 2010 census counted 18,117 residents. The city name has its origins in the wheat cultivation that is practiced in the region.

economy

During the Second World War, the city developed into an industrial location. The largest operation was the Bell Aircraft Corporation , which initially manufactured the P-39 Airacobra fighter aircraft and later other products for the aerospace industry.

location

Wheatfiel is located near Niagara Falls between Lake Erie and Lake Ontario . East of the city is the Niagara Falls International Airport . The city is surrounded by the cities of Lewiston and Cambria in the north, Pendleton in the east, North Tonawanda in the south and the city of Niagara Falls in the west. The city is bounded by the Niagara River in the south-west and Tonawanda Creek in the south.

history

Wheatfield has been a city since May 12, 1836. The first city assembly took place on June 6, 1836 in a school building.
