White Castle is the oldest hamburger - restaurant chain in the United States . White Castle is known for its square mini burgers, also known as "sliders" (or "Slyders"). The typical architecture of the White Castle restaurants shows a white castle with battlements on the outer wall.
history
The first restaurant was opened in 1921 in Wichita, Kansas by entrepreneur Billy Ingram and his partner, chef Walter Anderson. Since 1934 the company's headquarters have been in Columbus, Ohio . The chain includes around 420 restaurants and does not have a nationwide presence in the United States. White Castle Burgers are steamed on an onion bed in a proprietary process. The comparatively small burgers are typically ordered in larger numbers (for example 30 in a "crave case" box).
White Castle played a major role in the comedy Harold & Kumar . The chain is also an issue in various episodes of the King of Queens series .
