Wichita State University
The Wichita State University is a state university in Wichita in the US state of Kansas . There are currently around 14,000 students enrolled.
history
The college was founded in 1886 as a private Fairmont College . The first students were enrolled in 1895, which is also the official founding year of the university. In 1926 it was nationalized and renamed the Municipal University of Wichita . It received its current name in 1964.

Sports
The sports teams at Wichita State University are the Shockers . The university is a member of the American Athletic Conference . There is no football team, however, as it was completely killed in a plane crash in the 1970s and it was decided not to build a new team.
