The river Wiedey , more commonly known as Wiedey-Flüsschen , is an orographically right tributary of the Ölbach in North Rhine-Westphalia , Germany, with a length of 8.3 km.
River course
The Wiedey river is being built east of the Gütersloh district of Spexard on the arvato AG site next to the junction with the A 2 . The water flows away in a south-westerly direction and then leads through the meadow landscape south of the Spexard settlement area. After crossing the federal highway 2, the Wiedey river flows through the nature reserve Spexard . After crossing the 11.26 hectare protection area, the water initially takes on a 3.5 km long unnamed inflow on the left; shortly thereafter it is followed by a right-hand inlet, which is a connection ditch to the Knisterbach , which runs only slightly further north . Then the Wiedey river crosses the city limits to Rheda-Wiedenbrück , passes a wooded area and finally flows into the Ölbach north of the Schledebrück estate, shortly before it drains into the Wapel.
Characteristic
The Wiedey River is a typical flat brook of the Ems sand plain with a low mean bed gradient of only 1.3 ‰ and a correspondingly low flow velocity. The brook almost exclusively crosses agricultural terrain as well as forest areas in the lower reaches, in which the water has a largely natural meander . Since the river bed was expanded in some areas for meadow drainage, a more ditch-like character is predominant in these sections. The lower course of the Wiedey River was last examined for its saprobial condition in 2009 and the result was of moderate quality.
etymology
The name of the water, which is probably derived from the Low German term “Wide” ( willow ), is officially “Wiedey” according to the official register of water bodies, but in regional parlance the use with the appendix “little river” is far more common. A previously used name for the water is Flürt , which has been preserved in the name of Spexarder Straße "Zum Flürt" to this day.
